About two weeks ago Topher and I where nominated for line of the year and POV of the year for the powder awards. We missed line of the year by 3 votes, but we did come home with POV of the year. Was a very nice surprise for both of us.
As we all know the lower 48 did not produce much snow this year. However, the pacific north west continued to get hammered all year. We decided to head that way and give it a shot.
It was a very slow start to the season as mother nature was not too active in Wyoming until now. The Run Around made the most of a long overdue Jackson storm, here is what we whipped up.
Here is a little Go Pro edit from the beginning of February of Taylor and I. This winter got off to a real slow start and now that we do have some snow we have had a bit of an avalanche problem. We have been filming with both Two Plank productions and the local guys from KGB here in Jackson. So far all has been good and we just need more snow and a little bit more stability.

This latest video documents the first half of the The Run Around’s journey to Canada. After several attempts at different borders the crew was forced to leave behind the half of the team who were on Canada’s “naughty list.” The remaining members, Austin, Taylor, and Topher chose Nelson, BC for their first destination, relying on local beta and a bit of exploration to find the goods. Stay tuned for footage from the second half of this trip.
The boys were back at it in some secrets spots in the Jackson backcountry. Yet again, mother nature was keeping it interesting with some early morning starts and a fair amount of window shopping for the sun. All part of the game when dealing with the winter weather. As you can see in the video the snow was super deep and quite stable, two things that really put a smile on the crew’s faces. Many more webisodes from the season are still to come.
This past week I went down to SLC to compete in the Freeskiing World Tour finals at Snowbird, and also meet up with a New Zealand buddy of mine, Fraser Mcdougall, who’s been chasing snow in the states for the last few months. The qualifier day went great for the both of us, I took first and Fraser came in fifth, we were both super pumped going into day one of the finals. Unfortunately, I crashed and burned on a cliff that had a risky landed, but Fraser skied hard and made it into the finals on Saturday.
Fraser and a crew of his buddies have also been working on web series project this winter called “Backseat Bandits” they do all the shooting and editing themselves and have put out some super impressive clips this season. I have posted the one Fraser made from our Utah trip, it’s clear that he definetly has a talent for this sort of thing.
Check out the rest of the Bandits work on Fraser’s website.

Here it is! The second installment of the journey. Topher and Corey went down to Crested Butte to meet up with the Two Plank boys and a very large storm. The trip consisted of extremely cold temps, broken sleds, high winds, and of course some really deep pow! All in all it turned out to be a fun and exhausting week, check out the episode, this is just a taste of what the end of the year movie will bring.
The Run Around got things rolling this past week and a half when cinematographer Austin Gibney from Two Plank Productions arrived in Jackson. Unfortunately, Taylor was back on the east coast working as a judge for the Dew Tour competition at Killington, Vermont. But with Taylor’s departure came the arrival of friend and fellow professional skier Elyse Saugstad who along with Corey and Topher got to work on hitting some of the goods that the Jackson area has to offer. To be truly honest, it was not the best of starts for our adventure, the time spent shooting seemed to be plagued with snowmobile issues and frustrating weather. Regardless, the crew battled through the elements with several 5:30 am starts and were able to find some great snow and and put together some solid shots. Even though he didn’t have a ton of material to work with, Austin put his editing expertise to work and created a great first installment for the team’s season adventure, check out the video and keep checking back in for more additions to the website.
